Line 5 Opponents Speak Out at Public Hearing on Controversial Pipeline Project
Hundreds of people turned out at Northwood Technical College in Ashland, where the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held a public hearing on Enbridge Energy’s controversial proposal to construct a new segment of its Line 5 oil pipeline. Prior to the hearing, a group of Tribal leaders, environmental advocates and community members held a press conference to highlight increasing public opposition to the plan.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is soliciting feedback on Enbridge’s plan to add 40 miles of new pipeline to Line 5 in northern Wisconsin. Send an email to the Army Corps by July 5 telling them to reject Enbridge’s permit application.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court refused to take up a lawsuit involving Meteor Timber’s request for a permit that would have allowed the out of-state frac sand company to destroy rare wetlands in Monroe County. The decision marks the end of nearly five years of legal proceedings in which MEA represented the Ho-Chunk Nation.
