MEA Files Appeal in Legal Dispute Over Public’s Right to Access Great Lakes Shoreline
On February 12, Midwest Environmental Advocates filed an appeal on behalf of Shorewood resident Paul Florsheim who was found guilty of trespassing for walking along a stretch of the Lake Michigan shoreline north of Atwater Beach. The case could have significant implications for the public’s right to access and enjoy the Great Lakes.
VICTORY! Wisconsin Supreme Court Refuses to Consider Request for Lake Superior Water Bottling Permit
On January 16, the Wisconsin Supreme Court announced it would not take up a lawsuit involving a Bayfield company’s plan to bottle and sell water from an artesian well near Lake Superior. The decision marks the end of more than three years of legal proceedings in which MEA represented Lake Superior Not for Sale, a grassroots group opposed to the proposal.
Appeals Court Affirms Permit Denial for Controversial Lake Superior Water Bottling Proposal
The Wisconsin Court of Appeals has affirmed a lower court ruling that prevents a Bayfield company from bottling and selling water from a private artesian well located within the Lake Superior watershed. MEA has been participating in the case on behalf of grassroots group Lake Superior Not for Sale.
