2026 Change-Maker Awards hosted by Community Shares of Wisconsin

Midwest Environmental Advocates is honored to be recognized by Community Shares of Wisconsin as a recipient of the 2026 Community Change-Maker Award alongside our partners at River Alliance of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Conservation Voices.
The award recognizes years of collaborative work to address PFAS contamination and reduce exposure to these toxic substances. Together with community leaders and local advocates, our organizations successfully advocated for statewide PFAS standards and funding for PFAS testing, remediation, and assistance for homeowners whose private wells have been contaminated.
Although there is still more work to do, this recognition is an opportunity to celebrate how collaboration and grassroots advocacy can create meaningful change. We look forward to celebrating with our partners, our supporters, and all those who are working to create a cleaner and healthier Wisconsin!

Action Alert: Tell the Natural Resources Board to revoke Enbridge’s Line 5 reroute permit
The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board will meet on September 23 in Sturgeon Bay. We’re asking you to attend — in person or via Zoom — and urge the Board to take action to revoke Enbridge’s reroute construction permit. If you aren’t able to attend the meeting, you can submit a written comment.

Midwest Environmental Advocates (MEA) and the River Alliance of Wisconsin (RAW) are jointly seeking a Development and Administrative Assistant. The individual will be a part-time, hourly employee of both organizations. Hours per week between the two organizations are expected to range from 20-24 hours. Wisconsin environmental regulators are warning Enbridge they are prepared to take enforcement action over unauthorized pipeline construction in the wake of a massive natural gas liquids spill. It’s time for the Evers Administration to take decisive action by revoking the permits for the reroute.
Legal Victory! Court Dismisses Citation in Shorewood Beach Trespassing Case
Today, a Milwaukee County Circuit Court dismissed a trespassing citation issued to MEA client Paul Florsheim for walking along the Lake Michigan shoreline in the Village of Shorewood. The court found that Mr. Florsheim’s walk was a protected activity under the public trust doctrine and that the Village could not enforce its trespass ordinance against him.
New documentary follows Wisconsin youth who are suing the state over climate change
A new documentary film brings viewers into the lives of 15 young Wisconsinites who are suing the state over climate change. They share what they love about the places they call home, what they hope to protect, and why they believe they deserve a chance to defend their health and future in court.
LEGAL VICTORY! State regulators must strengthen environmental oversight of Pierce County livestock operation
MEA clients in Pierce County have won a major victory in a three-year fight to protect their community from the impacts of a major expansion at Ridge Breeze Dairy. On August 24, an administrative law judge ruled that a DNR permit allowing the farm to expand its herd to more than 6,000 cows failed to ensure compliance with Wisconsin’s groundwater quality standards.
