Kara O’Connor received her bachelor’s degree in international studies and French from the University of Nebraska, her master’s degree in public policy from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, and her JD from the University of Minnesota Law School.

Prior to joining the staff at MEA, Kara served as the Midwest Philanthropy Officer at American Farmland Trust, a national sustainable agriculture and farmland preservation organization. She also spent a decade representing members of Wisconsin Farmers Union at the Wisconsin state capitol and in Washington, D.C. It was during this time that Kara became aware of the indispensable role that Midwest Environmental Advocates plays in empowering Wisconsin residents to protect the land, water, and air in their own communities. Kara is passionate about building MEA’s base of financial support to ensure that Wisconsinites continue to have a place to turn in the face of environmental injustice.

Outside of work, Kara is active in her church and is involved in efforts to support immigrants and refugees in Wisconsin. She enjoys biking, hiking, and canoeing throughout Wisconsin with her husband and daughter, and she welcomes any and all suggestions for future domestic or international travel adventures.
