Development and Administrative Assistant
The River Alliance of Wisconsin (RAW) and Midwest Environmental Advocates (MEA) are jointly seeking a Development and Administrative Assistant. The individual will be a part-time, hourly employee of both organizations. Hours per week between the two organizations are expected to range from 20-24 hours. Post-JD Fellowships
MEA is open to hosting recent law school graduates whose fellowships are supported by independent funding for full-time, one-to-two-year positions with our team. While we accept fellowship inquiries at any time, we prioritize review and response to applications that align with the cycle of our current fellow(s). We are not currently hiring fellows, but we encourage you to check back for opportunities to develop applications in summer of 2027 for fellowships starting in fall of 2028.
Fellowship opportunities are available dependent upon an applicant: (1) submitting a resume and cover letter that includes a one to two-paragraph description of the proposed fellowship project that aligns with MEA’s current priorities; and (2) working closely with MEA staff to develop a competitive project proposal for submittal to an independent funder. We will provide more detailed information here when MEA is formally accepting fellowship applications.
MEA staff work closely with and intentionally mentor fellows, who add capacity to MEA’s legal work and gain real-world experience with many different aspects of environmental and administrative law and practice. Work of prior fellows has been integral to our cases and other work to advance issues such as climate justice, water quality protection, and open government. Examples of specific responsibilities include:
- Working with other attorneys on case development and litigation
- Drafting pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents
- Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda
- Developing strategy and legal theories
- Attending client meetings
- Attending and occasionally leading MEA’s court appearances
- Conducting helpline and client intakes
All MEA staff, including fellows, are based out of our office in Madison, Wisconsin. Some alternative work arrangements are possible, but we do not host fully remote fellowships.
