MEA Board of Directors Announces Kimberlee Wright’s Upcoming Retirement

May 16, 2019

From Susan Davidson, Board President, Midwest Environmental Advocates

After months of planning and preparation, the Board of Directors of Midwest Environmental Advocates is ready to share the news that Executive Director Kimberlee Wright will retire later this year. While we will miss Kim greatly, we congratulate her on a distinguished career, and we wish her the best of luck in her new endeavors.

For over a decade, Kim’s strategic leadership has greatly enhanced MEA’s capacity to provide legal services to citizens around the state who are working to protect public health and natural resources. During her tenure, MEA’s budget has more than doubled, along with the MEA’s capacity for development, communications, outreach and client services.

Throughout her ten years of service to MEA, Kim has remained steadfast in her commitment to citizens’ rights and her belief in the power of ordinary people standing together. With Kim’s guidance, MEA’s board and staff have coalesced around a shared vision that gives citizens a strong voice when it comes to protecting Wisconsin’s water, air and land. Kim’s determination to bring together citizen advocates from around the state has created a strong framework for collaboration among leaders at the grassroots level.

Our dedicated board and talented staff have been working carefully for some time to set the stage for a successful transition. Over the next few months, the Board of Directors will be conducting a search for a new Executive Director to chart a course for future growth by building on the strong foundation that Kim has helped create. With continued encouragement and assistance from MEA’s many dedicated supporters, we are confident that our work on behalf of citizens and the environment will grow and develop in new and exciting ways.

If you have any questions or concerns during this transition process, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at sdavidson@midwestadvocates.org.

Sincerely,

Susan Davidson, MD
Board President

From Kimberlee Wright, Executive Director

Several months ago, I shared with the board my intention to retire later this year. The opportunity to serve as Executive Director of Midwest Environmental Advocates has been the highlight of my professional career, and while I will be sad to move on when the day comes, I look forward to watching the ways in which this incredible organization will continue to grow and develop under new leadership.

I am extremely proud of all that MEA has accomplished during the past ten years, but the thing that I am perhaps most proud of is MEA’s role in connecting community leaders and grassroots groups around the state. These connections have blossomed into a vibrant teaching and learning environment focused on the shared values of working for clean water.

I am grateful to all who have been supportive of Midwest Environmental Advocates and of me personally over the years. Our talented staff, experienced board and loyal donors have made MEA the strong and vibrant organization that it is. It has been a privilege and an honor to serve as Executive Director, and I will watch with much excitement and anticipation as MEA’s next chapter unfolds.

All my best,

Kimberlee Wright
Executive Director
