Rosendale farmer looks to expand to 8,300 cows
TOWN OF ROSENDALE, Wis. - A Town of Rosendale farmer is
looking to expand his dairy into the state's largest with 8,300
cows.
If Jim Ostrum is successful, cows would outnumber people in the
town nearly nine to one.
Ostrum says that would benefit everyone because he would spend
$35 million per year with local vendors.
But a citizens group concerned about air and water quality has
asked the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to take a
closer look at the plan.
Attorney Jamie Saul represents People Empowered Protect the
Land. Saul says the group is worried about the disposal of 75
million gallons of manure to be produced at the farm each year.
Ostrum says he too cares about the land and his $70 million
project will be environmentally sound.
