About Us

At Midwest Environmental Advocates, we practice a community-based approach to the law, which reflects the diversity of the citizens of the state. Our practice is firmly rooted in Wisconsin’s proud tradition of safeguarding the health, environment and economy of the state for future generations, and our actions reflect our commitment to empowering ordinary people to participate in decisions affecting their homes, their special places, and their environment.

Specific examples of our work to protect health land include advocating for local control over livestock siting and land use decisions; and developing citizen guides to local land-use decision making processes. Midwesterners are a people rooted in their land. Here, people don’t just leave their marks on a place; our places make their marks on us.

"We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect."
- Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac, 1949
