About MEA

WHO WE ARE

Midwest Environmental Advocates is a nonprofit law center that combines the power of law with the resolve of communities facing environmental injustice to secure and protect the rights of all people to healthy water, land, and air.

WHAT WE DO

Legal Services

We provide client-centered legal services and technical support to individuals and grassroots groups facing environmental threats in their communities.

Information & Education

We give Wisconsinites the information and resources they need to hold industry and government accountable to environmental and public health standards.

Policy & Advocacy

We advocate for policies that protect the environment and the health of Wisconsin families.

Community Organizing

We strive to connect individuals and grassroots organizations who are working to address similar issues.

OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION

MEA’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is rooted in our organizational values of community, stewardship, empowerment, and justice. We strive to contribute to a more powerful and equitable movement for environmental justice in Wisconsin, and we believe it is essential that all communities see themselves reflected in that movement. Diversity, equity, and inclusion at MEA strengthen our organization's ability to advance environmental justice.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The state of Wisconsin encompasses territories of Dakota, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Mohegan, Mohican, Ojibwe, Oneida, Pequot, and Potawatomi nations. Most of these nations and their peoples remain present within what we now call Wisconsin. MEA endeavors to support Native people and governments through the work we do, and we encourage others to do the same.
